Apres Ski And Off The Slopes

The Apres Ski Party

A skiing holiday would not be complete without enjoying some of Meribel’s famous apres ski party after a day on the slopes. When the lifts close the bars come alive to the sound of live music & local DJ’s spinning the latest tunes.

We would recommend starting off your late afternoon/early evening entertainment at La Folie Douce, located just below the mid-station Saulire gondola, the music and entertainment kicks off around 3pm. The ‘Folie’ generally closes with the last lifts (430pm early season and nearer to 5pm from mid-February), after that take a careful and leisurely ski down the Green Rhodos piste to Le Rond Point (The Ronnie) a stalwart on the Meribel apres ski scene. A must visit venue offering a huge terrace with outside bars. Live bands and local DJs from 16h00 to 19h00. No visit to the Ronnie would be complete without sampling their infamous Toffee Vodka.

Notable bars in the town centre for apres.

Jacks Bar, located at La Chaudanne, live music every day from 16h00.

Lodge du Village in Meribel Village, live music every day from 16h00

If live music and loud partying isn’t quite your scene then there’s loads of other options available in and around town.

If you want to sample some fabulous wines, head to St Armour in the Galerie Des Cimes, a cosy little wine bar where you can sample some great local wines. BaroMeter is an English run bar in the centre, a more relaxed atmosphere here where you can enjoy a quiet drink and talk about the day’s exploits on the mountain. For something a little more French, head to L’Abreuvoir, this is a great French bar, a small outdoor terrace right in the centre of town or cosy up inside on a cold day and sample some fantastic cocktails.

Fancy a very typically French crepe – then the Igloo restaurant in the Galerie Des Cimes serve up some fantastic crepes and hot chocolate to take away.

Apres Ski In Your Chalet

Of course, you might just want to head back to the chalet at 16h30 each evening, and why not, with Go Ski Meribel’s complimentary bar, you might as well enjoy your drinks for free whilst soaking away the days aches and pains in the chalet sauna or hot-tub, listening to your favourite tunes on the chalet SONOS system.

If the thought of that isn’t quite enough, What about your own Mixologist in the chalet. We can arrange that for you. Of course this is purely an indulgence and an extra cost, but Myles the Mountain Mixologist offers an amazing service which can be brought into any of our chalets, his cocktails are truly sensational. You can see full details on his website.

Tobogganing

A holiday in the mountains wouldn’t be the same without some tobogganing. These special family moments and fun times with friends are some of the simple pleasures that put a smile on our faces, year after year.

Do your children ask where they can go sledding as soon as the first snowflakes start to fall? No problem, Meribel has plenty of secure areas for sledging, Meribel Village has a small floodlit area open every day & evening. Mottaret has a long floodlilt “The Himalaya” area from mid station Combes lift back into the centre of Mottaret, open every Thursday throughout the season and Tuesdays in February.

For “bigger kids” Meribel’s Mission Black Forest offers a 3.4 kilometre-long toboggan run through the forests from mid station Tougnete – But don’t take our word for it, give it a try yourselves. With 28 corners and a vertical descent of 470m through a magical world in the Arbin Forest it is not for the faint hearted.

It is truly an awesome experience!

The Olympic Centre

Built for the 1992 winter Olympics, here you will find a whole host of activities off the snow. An Ice rink, 25m swimming pool complete with slides, A 20m climbing wall, 10-lane Ten-Pin Bowling alley and a full spa area. Sauna/Hammam/Jacuzzi – Plenty of entertainment for the whole family.

Walking

There are lots of marked & groomed footpaths in and around Meribel, as well as further afield towards Lac Tueda or in the forest around The Altiport area. These are groomed so it isn’t always necessary to wear snowshoes, just a sturdy pair of boots will suffice.

We would recommend the walk around Lac Tueda, the short track is around 2km from Mottaret or you can extend and take the longer track which is just under 5km, it’s easy terrain and quite flat around the lake. Just take the public bus to Mottaret and get off at the end of the line, from there follow signs to Lac Tueda, there’s a nice café on the lake too for a hot-chocolate.

The forest around The Altiport area provides some lovely walking tracks, there is also a lovely walk by the river that connects Mottaret with Meribel La Chaudanne. The marked footpath runs beside La Truite (the green piste) you can take the track alongside the river. It is best enjoyed from top to bottom (Mottaret to Meribel) but for those with a little more energy you can take it bottom to top and take the free bus back to Meribel afterwards.

Shopping

A little light retail therapy – Meribel has some fabulous shops, If you want to update your ski wardrobe, you will be spoiled for choice, but it’s not all ski wear. You will find a few boutique shops, gift shops and delicatessens line the streets from the top of Galerie des Cimes right down to La Chaudanne.
